Romain Larrieu - Plymouth Argyle

GOALKEEPER Romain began his career with Montpellier in his native France but soon moved on to ASOA Valence in search of first-team football.

Ro was released after Valence dropped to the third tier of French football and he fell out of the game for six months. He resurrected his career with a successful trial at Argyle in 2000, when he became back-up keeper to the experienced Jon Sheffield.

Paul Sturrock made his Ro his first choice for the following season and the campaign ended with Argyle with promoted from League Two, and Ro being named in the PFA Team of the Year for the division.

His astonishing progress for Argyle prompted reports of possible interest from Arsenal but a serious knee injury curtailed his development, and gave Luke McCormick an opportunity between the sticks. The next four seasons would see the two men battle it out for the honour of being Argyle's regular number one.

A serious health scare and McCormick's impressive form led to Ro spending time on loan at Gillingham and Yeovil Town in 2007. The arrival of Graham Stack in the summer of 2008 placed further pressure on Ro's position but he swiftly reclaimed his spot in the team, and ended up being named the club's Player of the Season for 2008-09.

Ro's unfailing commitment to Argyle and the respect with which he is held by all with a Green heart led to him being named as club-captain in the summer of 2009. Although he lost his place to David Stockdale at the end of last season, Ro remains a hugely competent and admired goalkeeper. The Frenchman signed a new two-year deal in June 2010.
